A Blessing in Disguise? Time, Money, Love.

Ever since my mom became unemployed my dad's been a lot more caring and supportive of her. They haven't had an argument in a while, and he's actually going with her on a job interview tomorrow. I even suggested they take a walk on the beach and my dad didn't say anything, which usually means consent. I guess if I were to look at the bright side of things, we have half the income compared to before, but twice the love. And I don't mind that at all.

I really like this quote by Randy Pausch in The Last Lecture. "The key question to keep asking is, Are you spending your time on the right things? Because time is all you have." It resonates with me. Time is the one thing in your life that can never be replenished. You lose money, you can make it back. I used to be really hung up on spending money unnecessarily. Things like excess baggage fees and parking tickets would really, really get to me, because they were things that could have been prevented. But now that I'm getting older I realize how much more precious time is to me. I would never want to look back at my life and feel like I had wasted it, because I know it's something that I could never get back. I guess the best and closest reminder to me is my parents. They came to the US when they were in their 20's, and now they're more than twice that age. I'm in my 20's now, and it's mind boggling to think about how quickly it'll be when I am more than twice my current age.

I'm Sorry You're Stupid

Sometimes to get by in life, you just need to learn to laugh at yourself. Or...I guess, like this woman, you can try to file an unfounded lawsuit and pin your own stupidity on others. Either/or.

Feel good song of the moment.

\/^_^\/

This is what it looks like. I think it looks ok but I think this is the last time in my life I will have bangs. They remind me too much of my childhood and Asian girls who pucker at the camera making disgustingly cute faces while throwing peace signs.

Ruh Oh

I just gave myself a haircut, like when I was 5 years old and had free reign over scissors. And I cut my hair with the professionalism and skill of my 5 year old self.

At least hair grows back. Pictures to come soon.

Ok Enough

My last post was a little over-dramatic but I do still feel guilty.

Why am I a Bad Person?

It's so unfair. My mom used to do everything for me when I was little--tie my shoes, spoon feed me, change my stinky diapers, teach me math, catch me when I fell while taking my first steps. Now I have to help her apply to jobs online for a few minutes because she is not a product of the technology generation and I become exasperated when I have to hang out more than 5 minutes with her in front of the computer.

I'm an ungrateful little wretch. And I feel overwhelmingly shitty about myself right now.

Whacko to the Maxo

I had a super unbelievable dream last night. I was the girlfriend of a guy in my life who shall remain unnamed, because the thought of me being his girlfriend makes me blush. We were supposed to go on a trip to Antigua but we were running late catching our flight because we had stopped to chat with a few friends along the way. When we finally left I realized I had forgotten my passport at home so I had my "boyfriend" take all our luggage to the airport. He said he would wait for me at the boarding gate and I rushed home. The sequence of events become fuzzy after that. I remember getting home (which by the way, was a Spanish style villa resembling nothing like my home in real life) and seeing my "boyfriend" with at least two other girls on the couch and in bed. They weren't doing anything close to the dirty deed because they were fully clothed, but it was apparent that he was cheating on me. I confronted him about it and he seemed very matter-of-fact about it. I felt more angry at the girls and I wasn't mad at my "boyfriend" at all. I don't know why that was. But the strange thing is that he was supposed to be at the airport, so I don't know if that part was supposed to be a figment of my imagination while I was really at the house alone or if he had somehow strangely managed to make it home before me and decided to have a rendezvous with his women. Maybe it was a dream within a dream. Inception, anyone?

What happened after that was 007-ish. I went from jealous girlfriend to target of war. There was a sudden explosion and we all ran in different directions. I went outside and the scene was like Doomsday or something out of WWII Britain. Planes were flying overhead, filling the sky, people were running around, and the sky was just lit up with red. I started ducking and dodging the spates of bullets fired by artillery and tried to squeeze myself under a pick up truck. When I looked up there was an officer dressed in Thai military garb standing above me, firing away shots. That was WEIRD.

That's the last thing I remember before waking up. There was a segment where I actually made it to the airport, but too much of that eludes me for me to describe it in a coherent and somewhat entertaining way. I woke up feeling a flurry of emotions, which was unnerving. Jealousy, anger, fear, disbelief. But most of all, probably relief.

Heaven on Earth

I have decided that if I find a job I can live with by graduation this is how I will reward myself.
